This object is the result of a napkin sketch and a long conversation with my friend Victor Arranz.
About 10 months of work later this was the result; Made of galvanised steel and propped on 1940 Skis it was the star of My 1994-1995 show at the Museum of Decorative Art in Strasbourg France. "Les Telephones de Francois de Watteville, New York 1990-1994"
It is indeed a telephone as the caller slides himself inside and uses the instrument panel to place his call;
The panel is entirely made from scratch and is carved wood, glass and copper.
The small rocket knob would adjust the volume and make the right instrument move more and more downhill as it gets louder.
The big switch in the middle opens the line and makes the needle in the left instrument move to the right.
The 10 buttons are for dialing and one speaks in the microphone hanging on the right.
This Sculpture belongs to a private collector in London England.
